First Ginetta G50 event - Croft

At the beginning of the 2008 year the plan was to  have a full year of testing in the Ginetta G50 championship, but due to various reasons the first race in the championship came much earlier than we had planned, and it came at our most local track, croft. The race weekend itself couldnt have been more eventfull.

The track was soaking wet and standing water was certainly an issue down at various corners. The main problem going into qualifiying was the lack of experience Chris had in wet conditions in the Ginetta G50. This did become an issue in qualifiying and Chris only qualified 14th

Race 1 was also wet and Chris begun his first race in the Ginetta G50 championship. A steady start was made and everyone got through the first corner safetly.  As the race developed Chris picked his way through the pack and eventually finished 12th.

The track was drying and the tyre choice in the assembly area was slicks. This was certainly the choice at the time but threatening weather was filling in and the Xero Competition crew made the decision to change to wets. This turned out to be the correct decision as the heavens opened just as the cars emerged on track. Chris was on for a win until the start was stopped so everyone could change to wets. The race should have continued but due to the poor response of the organisers it denied Chris a win and punished the Xero Competition crew for a good decision.

The race got under way and the conditions were dreadful, the spray was thick and the upcoming corners were blind. Chris climbed through the field up to 12th but was having trouble passing as aquaplaning was a big issue offline. He moved up to 11th just before the race was red flagged due to an incident involving Jonathon Cook and Christian Dick down at Tower. The race was then run to the finish under the safety car. Chris ended the race in 11th. He later commented "The start of the race was very tricky, all I could see was the rain lights of the car in front, at times I had to look at the white lines at the side of the track to see where I was, the end result is one to build on."
